In a year marking the 35th anniversary of Anathema’s formation, a 2025 black vinyl edition of Serenades (1993) with new audio master by Jaime Gomez.
-----------
Crestfallen was the band’s first release for Peaceville and contained reworked tracks from their ‘All Faith is Lost’ demo as well as new A mature and majestic display of pure heaviness mixed with sorrowful melody to conjure an ethereal work of Doom Metal magic, Anathema’s 1993 debut ’Serenades’ clearly demonstrated that this was a band who stood apart from many of their competitors, able to effortlessly transition from the dark foreboding of tracks such as ‘They (Will Always) Die’, to more sensitively textured moments as witnessed on the acoustic guitar-laden ‘J’ai Fair une Promesse’.
'Serenades' managed to expertly blend fragility with raging aggression to stunning effect and heralded the dawn of what was to become one of the UK’s great acts in the genre and beyond.
