"The Epigenesis" is the fifth full-length album by the death/black metal band Melechesh, originally released in 2010. This is an inimical, iconoclastic work that defies genre conventions, predictability and cliché. You get black metal blasting and tremolo riffing, some thrashy parts here and there, Maiden-style twin-axe galloping and midpaced dirges with atmospheric moments more easily heard in epic doom/heavy metal bands – all these elements are blended together in swathes as if in a big cauldron; an alchemical combination of guitar styles and heavy metal motifs that blasts the gates down with authority, conviction and charisma.
