Originally released in 2010, “Misere Mortem” marked the beginning of Mortemia, the solo project of former Tristania and Sirenia mastermind Morten Veland. Blending heavy riffs, dark symphonic arrangements, haunting choirs and Veland’s unmistakable growls, the
album carries the spirit of classic Sirenia releases like “At Sixes and Sevens” and “An Elixir for Existence”, while presenting a darker and more stripped-down approach without female vocals.
Tracks like “The Eye of the Storm” and “The Pain Infernal and the Fall Eternal” showcase strong songwriting, memorable melodies and a dense gothic atmosphere throughout. Entirely written and largely performed by Veland himself, “Misere Mortem” remains a solid entry in the Scandinavian Gothic Metal canon and a must for fans of Sirenia, Tristania and Trail of Tears.
