Since their formation in 2018, Sweden''s Tyrann have quickly become a gold standard for rustic, turn-of-the-''80s hard-rockin'' heavy metal or perhaps that should be "heavy metalling hard rock"? Either way, the quartet have handily transcended their esteemed pedigree-members do or have done time in the likes of Enforcer and Tribulation-across two full-lengths, 2021''s ''Djävulens Musik'' and 2023''s ''Besatt,'' both showing acute focus and finesse but all done with a seemingly effortless air and a touch of evil. Tyrann with arguably their best record yet, ''Tyrann Forever.'' Aptly titled, ''Tyrann Forever'' sees the Swedes running through their whole arsenal - thunder & lightning heavy metal, straight-between-the-eyes hard rock, moody & magickal AOR, and the galloping early Maiden-gone-punk of their earliest days, with an aplomb that''s patient and breathless simultaneously. The songwriting''s as taut as it comes, with eight songs spanning a half-hour, but Tyrann pack each to the gills with hooks that are stripped-down yet sublime. That they can somehow take garage ethics to stadium dynamics circa 1981 is some strange alchemy, to be sure, but it only serves to make their already-intimate personality that much more ingratiating. Tyrann Forever? Indeed! Vinyl LP.
